Apple Might Give iPhones An Always-On Screen With Major iOS 16 Update

As WWDC 2022 approaches, rumors are swirling as to what Apple could announce at the event. And if fans are going by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it appears the company could be introducing changes to the iPhone lock screen with iOS 16.
In the latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said the feature may be coming to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Although the addition was originally planned to debut with the iPhone 13, it seems it may have been pushed back to the next lineup.
The new display would lower the lock screen’s frame rate “significantly,” allowing users to quickly glance at information and function in a similar way to widgets while reducing the amount of power used.
This feature was previously reported last year, when leaker Max Weinbach suggested the always-on screen could come with a clock and battery indicator, so users could peek at the weather forecast, battery level, or time whenever needed.
As always, however, there’s no guarantee Apple will release the feature, though as per 9to5Mac, a report from December 2020 did hint at a similar development.
