For the most part, the most sophisticated robotics are reserved for industrial purposes. Spot the AI dog, for instance, is intended for daily inspections and data collection in areas that are less accessible to humans. The only other option is to have an obscene amount of money to be able to purchase this sort of technology.
Taking things literally into his own hands, celebrity pastry chef Amaury Guichon has sculpted a robotic arm using a component he knows best: chocolate. The entire structure is handcrafted from dark chocolate, with Chef Guichon shaping individual parts out of molds he made himself.
The pieces, cut to precision, are then glued together with—you guessed it—more chocolate. Engineering at its sweetest.
Chef Guichon is the founder of the Pastry Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he even has a culinary series on Netflix called School of Chocolate, where dessert chefs compete to build the most beautiful chocolate sculptures.
Previously, the Swiss-French pastry chef dreamed up a chocolate robot chef that he introduced as his new helper. Now, this 90-pound, 3.5-foot-tall arm can be the robot chef’s helper.
The best part of all is that the robotic arm sculpture has a working gripper—also a product of dark chocolate, of course—that opens and shuts.
Now this is a mechanical marvel that those with a sweet tooth can get behind.
