Studio Ghibli Food Is Being Perfectly Recreated IRL At Japanese Restaurant
Any Studio Ghibli fan, at one point or another, has caught their stomach rumbling while watching food from the animation studio being served up on a character’s plate. Whether it’s Ponyo and Sosuke sharing a bowl of ham ramen or Chihiro’s parents turning into gluttonous pigs over a buffet, viewers would agree that extra care and love have gone into making sure the meals look incredibly delicious.
Well, your eyes won’t be the only ones feasting on the nosh as Donan Norin Suisanbu, a chain of izakayas (Japanese-style pubs), is taking the dishes out of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated world and serving them up to you steaming-hot.

The tribute comes just ahead of the Ghibli Park opening in Aichi prefecture.
Foodies can look forward to a breakfast like the one made by Howl with Fire Spirit Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle; the mysterious stuff Chihiro’s father was seen eating in Spirited Away, which the restaurant is interpreting with bamboo and mushrooms; the bento boxes in My Neighbor Totoro; and a rice soup called ojiya as seen on Princess Mononoke.

Two other special meals include the meatball spaghetti eaten by Lupin in the Castle of Cagliostro, which may not be a Studio Ghibli film, but Hayao Miyazaki directed it.
Prices begin at US$2.70 for the Castle in the Sky toast and go up to US$10.29 for the Kiki’s Delivery Service pie, which is pretty standard for izakaya prices. Given how the food looks almost identical to its animated counterparts, you’re getting a bang for your buck.
