As the rest of the world grapples with life post-pandemic and tries to move on from the last two years, China is still partaking in lockdowns as it employs a zero-COVID strategy to stamp out the virus.
Needless to say, it seems like COVID-19 is here to stay. For those living outside of the country, in the last year or so, society has made significant moves towards a future where we will live among the disease.
So, to lift the spirits of many cooped up in their homes, IKEA is taking great measures to bring a piece sung by a popular choir, the Shanghai Rainbow Chamber Singers, and created with Wunderman Thompson APAC.
The tune, titledDining Table, addresses the struggles of families who have had to overhaul their living spaces to double as home classrooms or meeting rooms. The music video depicts a family sitting rather unhappily together, with the child trying to study and her parents attempting to concentrate at work. As the song progresses, the mood picks up, and the household finds a wahy to arrange their school and work to accommodate each other comfortably.
The clip includes selfies of shoppers, who have revealed what life looks like when they’re stuck inside their homes.
The spot finishes with a shot of an IKEA dining table. On its tag, its price is stated as “Priceless.”
In the end, the campaign serves to remind us that no matter how challenging our situation is, we can always count on gathering around the dinner table with those we love.
