As we inch closer to the midterm elections, many considerations weigh on voters’ minds, including those surrounding the freedom of reproductive rights for women in the United States.
To encourage more newly-registered female voters to “flow to the polls,” a new campaign has emerged from Fortnight Collective, a brand marketing agency based in Boulder, Colorado, with parody ‘Votex Tampons’ that contain instructions on how to vote.
According to the agency, women in their 20s make up more than half the total abortions in the country, and in more than 20 states nationwide, those reproductive rights are being threatened.
The instructions, mimicking the lengthy pamphlets often found in regular tampon boxes, lay out four steps that female voters can adhere to. First, to “soak the ballots,” Votex reminds everyone that it isn’t too late to “join the gush of voters” on November 8.
Once participants are registered, they should choose candidates who promise“maximum protection” of reproductive rights. Next, they will have to “insert protection from conservative flow” by sliding their chosen lawmakers into place with their votes.
“Be sure to apply enough pressure that your voice is heard and they land securely in place in office,” the pamphlet cautions, urging users to repeat the steps every few years “to ensure a constant plug of conservative flow.”
