Samsung Could Be Launching An App To Help You Repair Your Gadgets At Home

Want to take a crack at fixing your broken phone? Over the years, smartphone companies have made it ridiculously difficult for everyday users to take their handsets apart and perform tasks as simple as removing a battery. New ‘right to repair’ laws have changed that, forcing firms like Apple to enforce self-service repair programs.
Samsung followed suit in the summer and now allows Galaxy owners in America to take the servicing of selected devices “into their own hands.” The company struck a deal with reputed self-repair platform iFixit to enable access to device parts, repair equipment, and step-by-step guides.
It seems the South Korean tech giant could be pulling more efforts to help users get better at DIY. As spotted by SamMobile, Samsung has filed a trademark for a ‘Self Repair Assistant’ app that could support the “self-installation and self-maintenance” of products with instructions and other resources for users.
The “computer application software,” which is envisioned with an icon of a cogwheel and wrench against a blue background, will provide “consultancy and information services” pertaining to DIY repairs, as stated in the trademark registration. The company created the application with the US Patent and Trademark Office on November 22.
Samsung’s current self-repair program is only compatible with the Galaxy Tab S7+, Galaxy S20, and S21 lineups. The app, on the other hand, might expand support for not only other smartphones but also “smartwatches, tablets… and earbuds.”
By directly referring to the software for guidance and other useful information, Samsung owners might also be able to fix their gadgets more quickly.
However, as pointed out in the report, a trademark filing isn’t confirmation that an actual app will happen. In the meantime, Samsung DIYers should find out how to repair their models via iFixit, the company’s existing partner for self-repairs and maintenance.
