Samsung Follows Apple To Debut Self-Repair Kits For Galaxy Smartphone Owners
By Alexa Heah, 04 Apr 2022
In November last year, Apple made strides in the ‘right to repair’ movement by introducing a self-service repair program that would issue consumers with genuine parts to fix their own devices.
Now, Samsung has followed suit, with the Korean brand announcing that Galaxy owners in America will be able to take product repairs “into their own hands.”
These moves could signal a step in the right direction, no doubt maximizing the lifespan of devices, promoting a circular economy, and reducing e-waste.
Customers with the Galaxy Tab S7+, Galaxy S20, and S21 products will be able to access Samsung device parts, repair tools, and step-by-step guides starting this summer, with the firm working in collaboration with renowned self-repair platform iFixit.
The technology giant says owners will be allowed to replace their own displays, back glass, and charging ports, and can even return the used parts to the company for recycling.
“At Samsung, we’re creating more ways for consumers to extend the lifespan of our products with premium care experiences,” shares Ramon Gregory, Senior Vice President of Customer Care.
“Availability of self-repair will provide our consumers the convenience and more options for sustainable solutions,” he adds.
