While Elon Musk figures out how to quell the chaos at Twitter and lure advertisers back to the social network, it appears he still has time to think about restructuring the company physically.
Recent reports suggest that Chief Twit is rather serious about realizing his “extremely hardcore” vision of the platform, and has transformed the conference spaces at the firm’s headquarters into “sad hotel rooms.”
According to Forbes, employees at the San Francisco office were greeted by makeshift bedrooms with unmade mattresses, unsightly curtains, and giant telepresence monitors. One room was even decorated with a plant.
Staffers told the publication they had received no prior briefing about the matter, and simply presumed the not-so-luxurious rooms were meant to serve as spaces for “hardcore” workers to stay overnight.
Naturally, not everyone is too happy with the unexpected makeover, with some employees remarking that it is “yet another unspoken sign of disrespect,” as the beds had shown up in the office without any discussion.
It’s not known exactly how many such bedrooms have sprouted up around the headquarters, though sources posit there were may be “four to eight per floor,” and that some already appear to have been slept in.
As Musk continues to make headlines for failing to pay out severance packages and janitors quitting due to the fact that their contracts weren’t renewed, surprise bedrooms for staff are now adding even more confusion to the mix.
Will Twitter truly be able to survive this tumultuous time and eventually achieve the lofty vision the world’s richest person has set for it? Who knows.
