Twitter Closes Offices After Mass Resignations Provoked By Musk’s Ultimatum
Yikes, who could have seen this coming? Following news of Elon Musk issuing an ultimatum to employees at Twitter to pledge allegiance to his new, “hardcore” version of the corporate culture that would see them working longer hours, it now appears its offices have now shuttered.
As reported by the BBC, the social media network told employees its office buildings would be “temporarily closed,” though they may be reopened this coming Monday, November 21. This comes as leaks of mass resignations filter through the media, adding fuel to the growing fire.
The internal message reminded staff to “comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere.”

Many users on the site are preparing for an eventual shutdown, with #RIPTwitter, #TwitterDown, Mastodon, and good ol’ Myspace among the current trending topics. Official government accounts have begun providing links to their accounts on other social media platforms should the worst happen.
According to The Guardian, staff departures have included numerous engineers, especially those responsible for tackling bugs and preventing service outages, which has caused users to fear the stability of the platform in the coming days.
Could this spell the end of Twitter’s legacy as one of the largest social media sites of our generation?
Lets put this into perspective — at the beginning of this month, Twitter had 7,400 employees. Barely half way through the month, if 75% do actually stick to their decision today, the company will have shrunk by a whopping ~88%.
