L’Oréal Introduces Printer For The Face To Make You Look Put-Together In Seconds

L’Oréal is putting ink to paper a visionary printer you likely haven’t seen before. Instead of zapping art onto A4 sheets, it promises to create precise, customized brows for your face in mere seconds.

The prototype for the handheld printer, called L’Oréal Brow Magic, was presented at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Its results mimic the aesthetics of high-end services like microblading, a semi-permanent tattooing technique requiring tiny needles to apply fine hair-like strokes to the skin.

Users can produce their desired eyebrow look at home via the accompanying Brow Magic smartphone app, powered by L’Oréal’s own Modiface augmented-reality technology, to scan their face. There, they can also select their preferred microblading, micro-shading, or filler effects, and the tool will then recommend the right proportions to accomplish the look based on their facial features.

L’Oréal Brow Magic disperses ink onto the brows using 2,400 tiny nozzles with a resolution of up to 1,200 drops per inch (dpi). To bring the technology on board, the brand partnered with temporary tattoo machine manufacturer Prinker to develop the equipment.

To kick off the makeup routine, you’ll first need to brush a compatible primer through your brows, before sliding the printer across your brow “in a single, sweeping motion.” Finally, a topcoat finish seals the product in place.

The company says that achieving dream brows usually takes various products, time, and tons of expertise. The printer, however, streamlines the process and makes “professional-like results accessible at home.”

Although the applicator is designed to deliver precise, personalized results, it gives users leeway to redo their printed makeup as the brows can be easily erased with regular makeup remover.

If you’re wondering, this high-brow printer isn’t just a proof-of-concept; L’Oréal intends to launch it this year.
