Internet hate threatened the livelihoods of M&M’s mascots (“I mean, as a walking, talking, candy, my options are pretty limited,” professes Purple) and, supposedly, even the recipe of the candy-coated chocolate.
You see, whenMaya Rudolph temporarily stepped up and replaced the ‘spokescandies’—who had their roles unceremoniously put on pause because people were mad about their “woke” new messaging and Green’s footwear change—she apparently had other plans in mind. At the Super Bowl, the comedian introduced the all-new Ma&Ya’s, which turned out to be “candy-coated clam bites.”
“Now with clams!” the new packaging proudly advertised.
Unsurprisingly, Rudolph’s dreams of making clam candies a thing were dashed almost immediately, as Mars Wrigley promptly shared “footage” of a press conference confirming that the spokescandies are back “for good.”
