Samsung’s Bixby Assistant Can Now Mimic Its Owner’s Voice To Answer Phone Calls

Just weeks ago, Samsung debuted its latest S23 lineup, boasting features such as Adobe integration and Gorilla Glass screens. But what has fans in a buzz is a function that’s been recently added to the smartphone’s voice assistant, Bixby.

Now, with Bixby Text Call, which converts typed messages into phone calls, the virtual helper can answer calls on a user’s behalf, so you’ll never need to deal with mundane conversations ever again.

The function—which is currently only available for English speakers—works by transforming the text message it receives into an artificial voice that then communicates to the caller via audio.

If you’re worried about sounding too much like a robot, Samsung will even allow users to personalize their voices, though the feature can only be accessed by Korean users for the time being.

Once it’s rolled out worldwide, one can record different sentences on the Bixby Custom Voice Creator in order for the algorithm to analyze and create an artificial intelligence (AI) that resembles their actual voice and cadence.

Going forward, Samsung revealed its plans to extend the generated voice function to other applications “beyond phone calls,” though not much else has been disclosed thus far.

Bixby Tell Call will be updated on Galaxy S23 smartphones through this month, with other improvements including expanded language offerings on the device, a custom wake-up phrase for the virtual assistant, and other additions.
