HBO Max, which recently rebranded to Max, has confirmed an upcoming Harry Potter television series, which will revolve around one of the books in the famed franchise. The show, described as being a “decade-long” program, will feature an entirely new cast.
According to Variety, the production studio will be working on the show in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros Television. Controversially, author J.K. Rowling will be involved as an executive producer along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
Rowling said she was promised that Max would preserve “the integrity” of the books’ stories and is looking forward to exploring them in a greater “degree of depth and detail” that would only be possible with a long-form series.
As per theHollywood Reporter, David Heyman, the man behind all eight full-length movies, is in talks to join the project, while the agency continues its search for a writer and showrunner.
Fans will be delighted to know that HBO Chief Casey Bloys revealed the budget for the project would be created on the same scale “or higher” than that of the network’s most popular series, including Game Of Thrones and House Of The Dragon.
With the Harry Potter films having grossed over US$7.7 billion worldwide, who knows how popular the television franchise will be? Only time will tell if the spectacle lives up to the expectations of its most ardent fans.
