Aircraft Seatmaker Unveils Premium Seat With Special ‘Privacy Wings’

Oftentimes, only first-class and business-class passengers get to enjoy the privacy of a suite or sliding door to shield themselves from the surroundings of an airplane cabin. However, that’s now changing with the rise of premium economy seats, like the ones in Emirates that offer Chandon.

Recaro, the renowned German airplane seat maker, recently unveiled its latest premium seating options at the Aircraft Interiors Expo—the highlight of which was the PL3810 premium economy class seat that promises an elevated level of comfort for frequent fliers.

The luxurious seat boasts a single-plate table with an armrest that can be stretched 4.5 inches, a six-way adjustable headrest, up to nine inches of incline, and special calf rests. That aside, the standout is the fact that the launch comes with special “privacy wings.”

These wings, which help support a passenger’s neck to make long-haul flights a more pleasurable experience, add a touch of privacy that otherwise isn’t readily available in the economy or premium economy cabins.

In addition, the latest seat weighs 10% less than its predecessors, allowing airliners to save on operating costs in the long run. That’s not all. To champion eco-friendly flying, Recaro is looking into developing more sustainable seats for the future.

One such example is the ‘R Sphere’ seat concept it unveiled at the event, which was made from lightweight, recycled materials, including the likes of cork, cactus, and recycled fishing nets. This project will act as a benchmark for the company to work towards environmentally-friendly seats.
