Leica is set to debut its first instant/digital camera, according to documents it has submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The new gear would blend the nostalgic factor of analog photography with the convenience of digital.
As uncovered byLeica Rumors, Leica AG in Germany registered paperwork to launch a “hybrid instant camera” this month. While there are currently no good illustrations of the gadget to give fans a decent look, the brand has shared a drawing of the camera’s rear.
As their name suggests, hybrid instant cameras enable the printing of photos directly from the shooting equipment, but they can also store the images internally or in a memory card. All this is possible because the pictures are digital, not film.
The forthcoming camera might mimic Leica’s instant film-based Sofort, as speculated by Digital Camera World.
That the product has been registered with the FCC means its rollout is just about set in stone, and it’s only a matter of when.
