MSCHF’s Microscopic Bag Fetches Over $60K At Auction

Typically, when you’re looking for a bag—be it a mid-tier or luxury one—you’d probably want it to at least fit your keys and wallet. Micro-purses started to become a trend a couple of years ago, with celebrities and trend enthusiasts carrying tiny totes that could fit just about a box of mints.
 
A couple of weeks back, MSCHF took this trend to the next level with a bag so small you might need a microscope to look at it. The speck-sized accessory measures 657 by 222 by 700 micrometers. Yes, it measures in micrometers, making it smaller than a grain of sand.
 
The MSCHF Microscopic Handbag’s size doesn’t take away from its incredibly detailed nature. It is modeled after the Louis Vuitton OnTheGo bag and comes in a neon yellow with the Louis Vuitton logo and pattern over it.

Such a purse won’t be able to accompany you on a lunch date or anything like that, but it could probably give its owner bragging rights at most. This is exactly what one person can now laud over their friends after spending a grand total of US$63,750 for the minuscule speck of a bag. The accessory was sold at auction as part of the Just Phriends sale from Pharrell Williams’ auction house Joopiter.
 
Of course, the art collective isn’t marketing the bag as something to use nor is it a scam of some sort (although, you can check out its most recent drop, a pyramid scheme, for that). It’s a poignant look at how expensive luxury goods are getting and how much people are willing to pay for them, even if they’re not as practical as something at a fraction of the cost.
 
That said, MSCHF has been on a roll recently with its current launches, which include a pair of Big Yellow Croc boots—and yes, these are human-sized.
