Largest 3D-Printed Neighborhood Debuts Its Inaugural Model Home In Texas

Construction tech firm ICON and home-building company Lennar have joined forces to present Wolf Ranch, the largest neighborhood made entirely of 3D-printed homes. Located near Austin, Texas, the project has just debuted its first model house.

Wolf Ranch offers eight home types designed by architectural firm Bjark Ingles Group (BIG) and inspired by traditional Texas ranches. These range from 1,500 to 2,100 square feet, with an average of three to four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms.

Powered by ICON’s Vulcan 3D printers, which employ a cement-like mixture called Lavacrete, the machine lays the basic foundations of the home before human construction workers come in to put in the finishing touches like the roof and other fixtures.

Its interior has a modern finish with white ribbed walls, exposed concrete flooring, and large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing the Texas sun to filter in and flood the house with light and warmth.

Each residence also has photovoltaic solar panels and smart home technologies, including a Ring Video Doorbell, a Wi-Fi-operated lock, and a smart thermostat.
