Apple Releases Trailer For ‘Strange Planet’ Toon Based On Internet-Famous Comics

After leaving audiences starstruck through comics and a New York Times number-one bestselling graphic novel, Nathan W. Pyle’s Strange Planet will soon land in the orbit of your sofa.

An animated series based on the whimsical alien world, whose occupants are far more relatable than they seem, is being released on Apple TV+ this August 9. 

“Strange Planet is a hilarious and perceptive look at a distant world not unlike our own,” Apple explains in a new press release. “Set in a whimsical world of cotton candy pinks and purples, relatable blue beings explore the absurdity of everyday human traditions.”

As seen in a trailer it has just dropped, characters in the show drink “jitter liquids” (coffee) and “mild poison” (alcohol). A draw of the comics is Pyle’s witty alternative vocabulary for the creatures, who use words like “leafbuckets” (salads) and “knowledge transmitters” (books).

If you’re wondering what the aliens sound like, well, it turns out they’re not too different from us in vocalization too. Strange Planet will include the voices of Gotham Award nominee Tunde Adebimpe (Rachel Getting Married), Emmy Award nominee Demi Adejuyigbe (The Amber Ruffin Show), Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens), Critics Choice Award nominee Danny Pudi (Community), and Emmy Award nominee Hannah Einbinder (Hacks).

The show is co-created and executive-produced by Pyle and Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty and Community), and produced by Apple Studios and ShadowMachine. It is also executive-produced by Alex Bulkley (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio), Corey Campodonico for ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman and Tuca & Bertie), Lauren Pomerantz (Saturday Night Live and The Ellen DeGeneres Show), Amalia Levari (Over the Garden Wall and Harvey Beaks), Steve Levy (Rick and Morty and Community), and Taylor Alexy Pyle.

Following the first three episodes on August 9, Apple TV+ will release a new episode every Wednesday until the season finale on September 27. Watch the trailer below.
