Photoshop Rolls Out ‘Generative Expand’ To Take Images Beyond Canvas In 1 Click

Adobe recently announced updates to the Photoshop beta app, introducing a new Generative Expand workflow and global language support for Adobe Firefly-powered features.

The integration of Firefly previously brought Generative Fill to Photoshop, enabling users to manipulate images using text prompts.

The new Generative Expand feature in Photoshop allows users to generate multiple versions of an expanded image within seconds by simply clicking and dragging to expand the canvas.

Generative Expand, powered by Firefly-based technology, enables expansion and resizing of pictures using the Crop tool. Clicking ‘Generate’ in the Contextual Task Bar fills the empty space with AI-generated content that supposedly blends naturally with the existing render.

Let’s say you aren’t happy with the composition of the photo you’re working with, or you’ve got the aspect ratios all wrong; Generative Expand helps fix such issues, by aligning objects or extending the canvas beyond the original image. 

You can still put in a text prompt if you would like something a little more specific to be generated.

Alongside the new update, Photoshop recently introduced support for Firefly text prompts in over 100 languages.
