McDonald’s is serving burgers with a side of the past as part of an over-the-top activation to promote the second season of Disney+ and Marvel’s Loki series.
From August 30 to September 1, the location at 6620 Bay Parkway in Brooklyn has been frozen in the year 1982 with period-accurate décor, furniture, and uniforms, interwoven with retro props from Loki.
And get this: The menu’s prices are also stuck in 1982, allowing fans to order an entire 10-piece Chicken McNugget meal for only US$2.54. The campaign is aligned with the Golden Arches’ ongoing ‘As Featured in Meal’ lineup, in which the brand has drawn food items from the reel world to dish them out in the real world.
As detailed by People magazine, customers journey back to 40 years ago by stepping through a Time Variance Authority (TVA) door. They’ll be greeted by employees in Ronald McDonald-themed striped work attire—true to the uniforms of the era—and get reacquainted with characters from McDonaldland, who are displayed on old-timey murals.
The brand worked with its in-house historian, Mike Bullington, to recreate McDonald’s 1980s restaurants as faithfully as possible. The setting gets even more convincing as the space is filled with advertisements from yesteryear.

One detail that might betray all notions of the location being trapped in the past is the augmented-reality feature on the sweet and sour sauce lids, which directs patrons to Loki-related content when they scan the packets via Snapchat.
While this McDonald’s will only stay this way for a very limited time, one restaurant in Hong Kong appears to be a permanent time capsule. Months back, a McDonald’s location in the city renovated specifically to appear like the joints of simpler times.
