Meta’s Threads Takes Aim At X (Formerly Twitter) By Offering A Free Edit Button
Meta-owned social media app Threads recently announced it will be rolling out two significant updates—including the highly anticipated edit button and the option to post voice clips with “karaoke-style transcription.”
The introduction of the edit button will allow users to correct mistakes in their posts without having to delete and repost.
Unlike its counterpart X (formerly Twitter), which took 16 years to implement an edit button that requires a paid subscription to access, Threads is offering the functionality for free to all users, both on mobile and the web.

According to 9to5Google, after uploading a post onto the platform, users will have a five-minute window to make edits. While this time frame may be much shorter than Twitter’s one-hour editing window, one will still be able to correct any errors spotted.
However, one major difference between the edit functions on both networks is that posts on Threads will not show edit history. Although it may not seem significant at first, the absence of this tool could raise concerns about the transparency of posts on the site.

In addition, the platform is introducing the option to post voice clips, catering to users who prefer speaking instead of typing or utilizing voice-to-text features.
With “karaoke-style transcription,” the app will transcribe voice clips on the go, allowing individuals to share their thoughts and ideas in a more dynamic and personal way.
