It’s Official: Twitter Announces It’s Working On ‘Edit Button’ For Tweets
By Alexa Heah, 06 Apr 2022
Things move fast in Twittersphere.
Just a day ago, it was revealed that Elon Musk had been appointed to Twitter’s board of directors, shortly after it was made public that he’s now the social network’s largest shareholder.
Now, mere hours after newly-appointed Musk started a poll asking followers if they’d want an edit button on the site, Twitter has officially confirmed it is working on a feature that’ll allow users to rewrite their tweets.

In a surprise tweet, the network said it had been “working on an edit feature since last year,” cheekily adding it didn’t get the idea overnight “from a poll.”
While it’s remaining tight-lipped on details, the company did reveal it would first be testing the feature with premium Twitter Blue subscribers “in the coming months.”
As Engadget reported, Jay Sullivan, Twitter’s Head of Consumer Product commented in a separate thread that the edit button was the “most requested” feature for years.
He promised the platform would seek “input and adversarial thinking” before launching the button to pre-empt possible misuse.
“Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of public conversation,” he wrote.
“Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work. Therefore it will take time and we will be actively seeking input and adversarial thinking in advance of launching Edit,” he added.
