President Donald Trump seemed to struggle with pronouncing the name of one of America’s most famous national parks following the signing of the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act.
During a speech at the White House, Trump could be heard referring to Yosemite as “yo-Semite”—in contrast to the correct “Yo-sem-it-ee” pronunciation—twice.
“When young Americans experience the breath-taking beauty of the Grand Canyon, when their eyes widen in amazement as Old Faithful bursts in the sky, when they gaze upon yo-Semite, yo-Semite, towering sequoias, their love of country grows stronger, and they know that every American has truly a duty to preserve this wonderous inheritance,” Trump said.
Trump’s critics flocked to Twitter to ridicule his mispronunciation. The Democratic National Committee shared a clip on Twitter with the comment, “[The feeling when] you’re the president and don’t know how to pronounce ‘Yosemite.’”
The Lincoln Project, which previously mocked Trump with a ‘Nationalist Geographic’ video, poked fun at the president once again for being able to “pronounce hydroxychloroquine, but not Yosemite.”
