When Apple’s iOS 16 Comes Around, You’ll Probably Be Seeing Fewer Junk Texts
By Alexa Heah, 23 Jun 2022
There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to iOS 16, with Apple looking to introduce a game-changing always-on lock screen, and the potential to instantly bypass CAPTCHA checks on your smartphone.
Now, following the launch of the second beta, it seems the update is looking to target even more, including better SMS filtering on Messages.
Previously, the company had said at WWDC 2022 that it would be incorporating 12 new subcategories into its filtering API, which has now been made available to developers with the latest beta.
Not only will developers be able to “classify incoming SMS from unknown numbers” into these new subcategories, but dual-SIM iPhone users can also filter messages based on which SIM card they’re using.
According to 9to5Mac, users subscribed to select US carriers will also have the ‘Report Junk’ feature enabled to directly report spam messages to the carrier companies, even when they come from unknown senders.
While most eyes will be on the more obvious changes of interactive lock screens and better widgets, there’s no doubt this change to Messages will be one that most users of the iPhone will be thankful for.
