OpenAI Launches Waitlist For Paid, Premium ChatGPT For Professionals
By Alexa Heah, 12 Jan 2023
ChatGPT has taken the internet by storm. In recent weeks, many have tried their hand at communicating with the popular chatbot, including students who’ve turned to it to pen their assignments, and Microsoft’s plan to incorporate the tool into its Bing search engine and Office applications.
Now, OpenAI, the same artificial intelligence (AI) company behind the famed image generator DALL-E 2, has opened a waitlist for the chatbot’s biggest fans to sign up for an “experimental” paid version of the feature, dubbed ChatGPT Professional.
In a Discord post, the company said it was looking to begin monetizing the AI tool so as to “ensure its long-term viability.” At the moment, plans on how to do so are in the early stages, and there’s “nothing official to share yet.”

All that’s known is that those eager to gain first access to the forthcoming paid model can indicate their interest in a Google Form. The premium version of ChatGPT will give users faster responses, double the number of searches each day than the free version, and be “always available.”
As per Insider, those selected to trial the program will be asked to set up a payment process, though it’s unclear exactly how much OpenAI plans to charge its customers.
Interestingly, the news outlet details that on the signup sheet, the firm asks customers to indicate how much they’d pay to make the professional model “a great buy.”
It’s important to note the early experimental model is “subject to change” at any time, and that any applications claiming to have access to the paid platform at the moment are false, as it’s not “generally available” just yet.
