Tesla Relaunches Its Wireless Phone Charger But At A Reduced Price
By Yoon Sann Wong, 12 Sep 2018
After Tesla launched then mysteriously removed its wireless phone charger from its website, the eco-friendly electric vehicle brand—led by CEO Elon Musk who recently became a meme, a GIF, a Photoshop battle and a giant wall mural after smoking weed live on air—has restocked the tech lifestyle accessory at the reduced price of US$49, down from its original US$65.
The ‘Tesla Wireless Phone Charger’ debuted with underwhelming specs that can be achieved through alternatives at wallet-friendlier prices.
Many speculated that the 6,000 mAh Lithium-ion polymer battery charger with 5W output was targeted towards hardcore Tesla fans willing to shell out the premium.
Tesla is offering a refund to initial customers who had purchased the charger at US$65. The company explained that by manufacturing more units, it was able to lower the cost.
In a message to purchasers, Tesla explained, “Due to strong customer demand, we’ll be reintroducing the sold-out Tesla Wireless Charger. By producing higher quantities, we’re able to lower the cost to $49.”
“Early adopters… who paid $65 for the charger, will automatically receive a refund of $16 (plus local sales tax).”
Those keen on getting their hands on the ‘Tesla Wireless Phone Charger’ can do so here, though it will take three to four weeks for shipment “due to high demand.”
