IKEA has been drumming up excitement for its highly-anticipated capsule with Virgil Abloh, and it’s finally (almost) here.
The MARKERAD collection by IKEA and Abloh, artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton and founder of cult streetwear label Off-White, launches when stores open on Friday—and there’s one more stunt to pull before the wait is over.
IKEA overhauled the logo on its storefront in Wembley, adding quotation marks to the lettermark to mirror Abloh’s signature aesthetic of all caps, which it had already gotten down pat, and speech marks.
The grand feat is comprehensible considering Abloh’s international acclaim. His street fashion brand, Off-White, has been consistently ranked as the “hottest brand” in the world.
The capsule’s pieces—including a Mona Lisa phone charger, “WET GRASS” rug and giant IKEA receipt rug—are expected to sell out fast. In certain parts of the world, the launch will be a ticketed event, while other places have enforced purchase limits on each customer.
Should there be leftover stock, shoppers can supposedly buy them as usual in stores.
