Instagram has begun keeping its like counts out of sight in a test involving several accounts worldwide, and plans to permanently hide them for all users in the future.
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri told BuzzFeed News back in April that the removal of the likes feature would help to create a “less pressurized environment,” encouraging users to be “comfortable expressing themselves.”
Though the move is well-intentioned, some users will evidently continue to stay curious about the number of likes others have amassed on their posts. For those who want to keep tabs, a free browser extension called ‘The Return of the Likes’ will do the trick.
The extension created by Socialinsider runs on Google Chrome browser, and lets account owners check on like and comment counts.
According to PetaPixel, the extension is aimed at social media marketers who wish to check on “other companies, agencies and especially when working with influencers.”
Socialinsider claims that “no data is sent to Socialinsider servers,” but since it is still a third-party website, you might want to download the tool at your own risk.
Once you have installed it, like and comment stats will appear under individuals’ Instagram post when viewed on the Chrome browser, so there is some effort required in order to satisfy that curiosity.
Those interested to download ‘The Return of the Likes’ can head on over here.
