Shakira Sticking Her Tongue Out During Her Super Bowl Performance Is Now A Meme

Shakira kicked off the Pepsi Halftime Super Bowl show and dazzled fans with a stunning performance. The singer maximized the stage by putting out her best dance moves, proving once again that her hips don’t lie. However, the true stand-out moment during her whole performance was the closeup of her tongue.
The camera zoomed in on Shakira sticking out her tongue and making a noise, inadvertently making the scenario one of the highlights of Super Bowl 2020.
“Not sure what Shakira did here but I’m still into it,” one user tweeted.
It turns out that the practice is called a “Zaghrouta,” which is an Arabic celebratory chant to express joy, per SB Nation. The American Tunisian Association details it to be a “long, waving high-pitched vocal soul representing trills of joy.”
As a Lebanese-Colombian, Shakira has been intertwining Middle Eastern culture with her career for years, and this time, she seems to have introduced the “Zaghrouta” to the world.
