Out of the blue, a bearded Eminem appeared on stage at the 92nd annual Academy Awards, leaving members of the audience confused. The rapper belted away his 2002 hit song Lose Yourself on Sunday night.
The reactions caught on camera during his performance clearly showed that many were perplexed why the rapper was on stage performing a two-decade-old song at the 2020 Oscars, especially when he hasn’t been involved in any of the nominated movies this year.
Director Martin Scorsese and his daughter Francesca’s facial expressions were some of the notable ones that went viral online. Internet users also joined in on the amusement, and joked about the audience members’ confused faces.
The rapper cleared the confusion, and told Twitter users that he was simply making up for missing the 2003 ceremony when his track, Lose Yourself, won Best Original Song for the 2002 Eminem-starring film 8 Mile.
“Sorry it took me 18 years to get here,” he tweeted about his performance.
