An attempt by an Iranian minister to masquerade a children’s Halloween costume as an actual spacesuit crashed and burned after being called out by eagle-eyed internet users.
The photo of the outfit was shared by Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi, who wanted to convey Iran’s military and technological advancements with a supposed image of a uniform for future astronauts of the country.
“Astronaut costume #bright_future,” he captioned his tweet.
Social media users quickly pointed him to an Amazon listing of a similar-looking children’s NASA-inspired spacesuit.
The key difference is the absence of the NASA logo and name patch in Iran’s “spacesuit,” but the outlines left behind on the chest area of the costume show where the badges could have been ripped off.
If this is the future, you can purchase it for US$23.57.
