Jetman Dubai, developers of jet-powered wing-suits, successfully sent jetpack pilot Vince Reffet flying nearly 6,000 feet in altitude. Reffet picked up speed and reached around 328 feet in height within just eight seconds during his human flight mission on 14 February 2020.
From the runways of Skydrive Dubai, Reffet launched into a high altitude flight with his speed hitting 400 kilometers (248.5 miles) per hour. The man could fly directly while standing upright during takeoff, and did not require an elevated platform.
Reffet showcased full control by performing stops, turns and stunts throughout the flight, akin to a real-life Iron Man. He achieved a roll and a loop movement at 5,905 feet in altitude, before releasing his parachute and landing smoothly back onto the runways.
Reffet’s flight marks the first time a Jetman pilot has combined flying aerobatics at a high altitude while hovering safely during low altitudes.
Engineers Mohammed Rashid Chembankandy and André Bernet, along with chief engineer Matthieu Courtois, were behind the technology to make this flight a possibility.
