One thing smartphone users should know by now is not to buy into everything the internet tells you to do. After the questionable Tide Pod and “soy sauce” challenges, people are continuing to sacrifice their safety and sanity with a new ‘Skullbreaker’ craze.
The dare involves three people standing in a row, with the two at the side tricking the person in the middle into jumping. As the subject follows orders, the other two kick his or her legs from behind.
International media outlets have reported serious injuries as a result of the dangerous challenge. Brazilian television network Costa Branca, via Yahoo News Australia, said a 16-year-old girl died in December because of the stunt.
New viral footage, captured at a school in Venezuela, shows two youths kicking the feet of a boy, who is flung onto a concrete floor. The Mirror reported that the boy was seriously wounded, and had to be in intensive care.
Cyber safety expert Susan McLean urged parents to pay close attention to their children and start discussing about how they use social media.
She also warned that participating in such pranks can result in criminal charges if someone ends up getting hurt or killed.
