WhatsApp partnered with Brazillian ad agency AlmapBBDO for its first-ever ad campaign, featuring a poignant short film that tells of team spirit based on a true tragedy surrounding Brazil’s Carnival.
Titled asFica só entre vocês, which translates to It’s between you, the film depicts an emotional tale on how WhatsApp is more than just a messaging app for its users.
The film sees a samba school losing its warehouse in a fire accident ahead of the Brazillian festival. The rivaling team rallies support by reaching out for donations through WhatsApp, and helps the team to rebuild the warehouse in time.
The spot ends with the line, “Rivals in public. Friends in private.”
Based on a true occurrence in Brazil, the video touches on emotional connections and community support. WhatsApp aims to highlight how the platform echoes the same message by striving to create bonds between users at a deeper level.
