Spotify is letting the beat drop for mobile users, who are now discovering that it has overhauled its app with a more streamlined, intuitive interface for free and premium subscribers.
The revamp began rolling out on the iOS app on Thursday, and includes a new shuffle play button, a “one-handed” action row, and cover art for track rows.
The spanking new “shuffle play” icon is “simpler and more universal” than the initial shuffle button, Spotify describes. With the redesigned button, subscribers can easily stream music at random in a single tap.
A streamlined action row for premium users serves as a “one-stop-shop” where all actions like ‘like’, ‘play’, and ‘download’ can be located at once and accessed one-handed to cater to phone screen sizes. The action row can be seen at “the central part of the screen.”

A small addition is the redesigned download icon for premium subscribers, which now takes on the same appearance as the one for podcasts.
Lastly, Spotify is also showing album art for tracks in all playlists but individual ‘Album’ views. This way, users can look out for familiar songs or tracks they may enjoy, and artists can have more of their work shown to listeners. A heart icon will appear aside tracks that subscribers have already liked.
iOS users are already seeing the refreshed app design, and Spotify tells 9to5Google that the update is “coming soon” to Android.
