You’ve heard of dream jobs where you get paid to stay indoors, binge-watch your favorite shows, and conduct zero labor. However, there always seems to be a catch, and this one involves you being willingly infected with a coronavirus.
At the end of two weeks, 24 volunteers will each be handed £3,500 (US$4,526) for being jabbed with two weaker strains of coronavirus, 0C43 and 229E, in a bid to find a vaccine for COVID-19. The medical trial will be conducted by Hvivo, which leads the quarantine laboratory at London’s Queen Mary BioEnterprises Innovation Centre in London.
Participants will be quarantined for two whole weeks, and their only human contact will be with the doctors and nurses who will be monitoring them in protective gear, according to The Times. They won’t be allowed to exercise, and their diets will be controlled.
Before that, the 24 will be asked about their medical history and undergo medical evaluations, which include verifications for antibodies against coronaviruses.
The researchers will then collect the patients’ swabs and dirty tissues over the experiment to assess their viral load.
The team hopes that by confining volunteers in a controlled environment, they’ll finally be able to find an injection for the novel coronavirus.
