Clearer Water Glimmers In Venice Canals Under Italy’s COVID-19 Lockdown

Italy is currently on lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus. With minimal movements in the city, the latest social media posts by Italians reveal clearer water in the canals in Venice.
Many suggested that the reduction in pollution and halt in motorboat traffic due to the quarantine has led to the cleaner canals.
“The water now looks clearer because there is less traffic on the canals, allowing the sediment to stay at the bottom,” a spokesman shared with CNN.
Many social media users began sharing photos of the glistening water and fishes spotted in the canals to Facebook group called Venezia Pulita (Clean Venice), which sparks a glimmer of positivity among internet users amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
