Satellite Images Show Venice’s Once-Bustling Canals Now Empty Due To COVID-19

The European Space Agency (ESA) has released satellite images of Venice to show how empty its canals have become due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Images captured on 13 April 2020 show a stark difference in boat traffic as compared to pictures from almost a year ago on 19 April 2019.
The Grand Canal and the Giudecca Channel appear almost empty, as compared to the previous year when boats would fill the canals. The water also seems to be a darker blue in 2020.
The images of the city were taken by ESA’s Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission satellite.
