As an attempt to progress forward with the government’s aim for transparency around unidentified flying objects, the Pentagon has officially released three videos of “unidentified aerial phenomena” taken by Navy pilots. Now, the truth is out in the air.
The videos were first published in 2017 by the New York Times and feature moving objects in the skies that have been unclassified since.
One of the videos documents an incident in 2004, when a 40-foot-long object was seen hovering 50 feet above the water, per the New York Times. The other two clips were taken in 2015; one shows an unknown object flying above the water and the other spots the object rotating in the skies.
The Pentagon confirmed the existence of these videos in 2019 and promised to formally release the footage once the clips had gone through a “thorough review” to make sure they were clear of confidential information.
Sue Gough, a Defense Department spokesperson, told CBS News that by releasing the videos, it would “clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real.”
Following the report by the New York Times, the Navy formulated a process to enable pilots to report appearances of aerial phenomena, and in 2019, the Navy finally confirmed the UFO sightings. The videos have now been released in the Navy’s website to allow the public to have access to the unclassified videos.
