NASA Is Paying People To Live Inside Simulated Mars Spacecraft For Eight Months

Your time spent in isolation might come in handy, after all. To prepare for its forthcoming expeditions to Mars, NASA is hoping to recruit people to spend eight months in a confined spacecraft mirroring the design of what it plans to send to Mars.
For the experiment, crew members will be tasked to be cooped together inside the mock spaceship in Moscow, Russia for eight months so scientists can observe the effects the isolation will have on the human body.
Of course, applicants will need to fulfill certain criteria before being hired. According to the space agency’s press release, it is seeking “highly motivated US citizens” between the ages of 30 and 55 who are proficient in Russian and English for the role.
They will also require an “M.S., PhD., M.D. or completion of military officer training,” and if not, “a Bachelor’s degree and other certain qualifications,” such as “relevant additional education, military, or professional experience.”
The study follows a similar one that involved six participants spending four months in the exact same cramped space.
