Music Industry Halts Business To Stand In Solidarity Against Racial Injustice

Several music labels have shut down business for a day on 2 June 2020 to “contemplate, connect and organize” following the death of George Floyd by the hands of a Minneapolis cop last week.
Dubbed as “Black Out Tuesday,” over a dozen record labels have shared their stance on Floyd’s incident as they stood in solitary against racial injustice on Instagram.
Some of the companies include Sony Music, Atlantic Records, Live Nation, Universal Music Group, Warner Music, Kobalt Music, and more. Columbia Records’ chairman Ron Perry first shared his post regarding his feelings on the current “injustices all around us” last night.
Universal Music Group shared the same sentiment with its post tied with the message, “We stand with the Black community.” Soon, other music labels expressed their concerns over racism on their platforms. Read the messages shared by some of the record labels below.
