A TikTok video, shared by Krysta Meyer, shows her infant son Oliver being tossed into the pool by a swimming instructor, who then hops in after the baby.
The post was captioned as, “Oliver amazes me every week! I can’t believe he is barely two months in and is catching on so fast. He is a little fish.”
Though it seemed like Oliver was sinking at first, he immediately fixed his position and floated to the surface of the pool on his back. Meyer filmed her son learning how to float in water and shared it online, only to receive a ton of conflicted response.
“Dropped him in there like a bath bomb,” one comment read, while another stated, “[Little man is] not swimming, he’s fighting for his life.”
However, another user wrote, “I work in Aquatics and while I know the benefits and this actually works, my heart stops every time I see these.”
Many criticized the lesson as it seemed a little harsh for the baby, but it turns out that it is an incredibly useful survival skill for babies in times of danger. The video has since received over 5.1 million views and 125,000 comments. Watch it for yourself below.
