As coronavirus quarantine rules start to relax in certain countries, many hairdressers can now open—but it won’t be business as usual.
In Japan, people are still required to wear a mask if they wish to visit public spaces. This, however, is tricky if they visit salons because hairstylists would have difficulty trimming the sides or the hair near the ears due to the mask hoops, which might also get soaked if customers opt to have their tresses washed too.
To tackle this issue, Japanese hair salon Earch has come up with a clever solution called Salone de Mask. The smart design eliminates mask straps, and instead attaches adhesive strips that stick to the wearer’s cheekbones and jawline.
This way, hairdressers will be able to give haircuts without having to worry about snipping the straps of the mask.
The masks are also sheer, allowing stylists to observe their customers’ facial features and ensuring that the hairstyles suit their faces.
Earch also designed another option where you can just stick over a bigger mask over your own, perhaps for double protection. The masks can be purchased online here, and prices start from 1,100 yes (US$10.30) for a pack of five.
