The US Environmental Protection Agency (EscPA) has declared that two Lysol products are effective at killing the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19.
The two products are the Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist, which the EPA mentioned in a press release were successful at preventing the spread of the virus during a lab test.
Though there are over 400 products on EPA’s list of disinfectants that are strong enough to stave off “harder-to-kill” viruses apart from the novel coronavirus, the two Lysol products were the first to be tested against the virus and proved to be successful, CNN reported.
According to the test, users need to spray the disinfectant, which would kill the virus two minutes after coming into contact with it, and scrub it down to effectively remove the virus.
“In the face of the pandemic, Lysol continues to work with a wide range of scientific and health experts to educate the public on the importance of hygiene,” Lysol’s executive vice president Reckitt Benckiser told CNN.
“Hygiene is both the foundation of health and essential in preventing the spread of illness causing germs,” Kadyan said in a statement. “The EPA’s approval recognizes that using Lysol Disinfectant Spray can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on hard, non-porous surfaces.”
Lysol is currently testing other products to measure their efficacy against the coronavirus.
