Disney Fireworks Aren’t So Magical In New Yorker Cartoon Mocking Goofy Reopening

Seemingly convinced that this is a fairytale world where coronavirus infections don’t exist, Disney reopened some of its theme parks to widespread uproar.
The New Yorker magazine’s latest cartoon, illustrated by cartoonist Teresa Burns Parkhurst, echoes the fears of the concerned public as COVID-19 continues to parade itself with little sign of stopping.
The mostly black-and-white drawing imagines the surrounding of a Disney Park castle exploding not with fireworks, but an array of red coronavirus particles during the grand reopening.
For the first time, Disney’s famous firework display literally looks sick.
“M-I-C-K-E-Y, why, collective stupidity,” the artist commented in her Instagram post resharing the work.
The clever graphic has been applauded by readers, with Instagram user @thunderhill1 suggesting an apt new spin to the When You Wish Upon a Star lyric, “It makes no difference who you are.”
