The term “Karen” is often used to condemn insufferable middle-aged white women for various reasons, including not wearing a mask and throwing tantrums in public.
Now, “Karens” have their own theme song brought to you by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The parody song, entitled Karen, Please Just Wear a Mask, urges these women to wear masks and practice social distancing measures in the tune of Dolly Parton’s famous track, Jolene.
The lyric, “You go on rants at Trader Joe’s,” alludes to the time a Californian woman chided store employees for asking her to cover up with a face mask amid the pandemic.
Another line in the song mocks the “Karens” in Florida who rebuked the state’s mask mandate as “the devil’s law.” The unnamed singer goes in detail to point out the ridiculous times this stereotype has caused turmoil in public.
