Banksy Donates Refugee Crisis Artworks Worth £1.2m To Raise Money For Charity

Banksy has donated paintings that reference the European refugee crisis to a charity auction in a bid to raise money for a hospital in Bethlehem.
The works, titled Mediterranean Sea View 2017, are approximately worth between £800,000 and £1.2 million (US$1,027,956 and US$1,541,934). The paintings of “abandoned lifejackets and buoys to 19th century-style seascapes” were originally created for Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel.
The paintings will appear in Sotheby’s Rembrant to Richter sale, and proceeds will go towards creating a new acute stroke unit and buying children’s rehabilitation equipment for the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation.
Banksy’s works, too, have been immortalized in a hardcover titled Banksy: You Are An Acceptable Level of Threat and if You Were Not You Would Know About, per HYPEBEAST. The 248-page book features a collection of photographs showing Banksy’s iconic works, including his graffiti from the ‘90s to his 2010 Seasons Greetings mural.
Banksy’s Love is in the Bin artwork , which Sotheby’s described as “the first artwork in history to have been created live during an auction,” is also found in the memorabilia alongside chronicles of the artist’s Dismaland show and new works from Gaza and New York.
The book also includes descriptions behind the works so readers can understand more about them. The book is available to purchase on Amazon for US$27.
