KFC Trinidad has apologized for a fried chicken ad celebrating the end of slavery after social media users found it was in poor taste.

For the country’s Emancipation Day, which honors the end of its people being used as property during colonial times, KFC Trinidad posted a “Happy Emancipation Day” Black Lives Matter-themed visual of a fried chicken drumstick with the shadow of the Black Power fist.

Several internet users had their bones to pick about the campaign. “What better way to commemorate the emancipation of slaves than by pointing out that the Black Power symbol resembles a fried chicken drumstick?” activist Titania McGrath asked.

“This is the most racist thing I’ve seen a corporation do ever, how tone-deaf are they?” a Twitter user remarked.

Others defended that this brand of humor fits in Trinidad and Tobago, but would be “racist” if delivered in predominantly white countries like the US.

Since the controversy, the fast-food chain has taken down the ad and issued an apology. “Clearly, we got it wrong and we want to unreservedly apologize for the offense caused,” KFC Trinidad addressed.

Thank you KFC Trinidad for this powerful gesture of solidarity. ✊🏾🐔 pic.twitter.com/u1iwn4xYsB

In case y’all didn’t realize, the website says https://t.co/b8RXhA9FWE (the .tt means Trinidad and Tobago). This would of been made by Caribbean people and is right up their alley for sense of humour in Trinidad. Now if this ad been made in USA or europe, then yes it’d be racist
