If you’re stumped for ideas to redecorate your home, try going completely out of the box. Take it from IKEA’s new collection with Thai fashion label Greyhound Original, which has gone the extra mile in the quest for upcycling with jug-shaped lighting and clothed seating.
The new SAMMANKOPPLA range takes immersive inspiration from the street style seen in Bangkok, Thailand, where tight budgets and confined spaces push people to recycle in creative ways for multifunctionality every day. In Asian cities and perhaps especially Bangkok, repurposed items aren’t merely a design statement but also baked into the psyches of urban dwellers.
Bangkok’s street influences can be seen in the collection’s vivacious patterns and textiles spanning cushions, storage units, mugs and more. These include Bangkok’s iconic houndstooth pattern reminiscent of traditional Thai weaving techniques.
There’s a triangle-shaped cushion (US$29.99) mirroring the ones commonly found in Southeast Asian markets, an LED lamp resembling a plastic jug (US$24.99), and an ‘ORIGINAL’-branded chair cover in the style of a hoodie (US$29) that even comes with pockets for your phone or television remote.
The fun, limited-edition SAMMANKOPPLA collection is now available to shop.
