It turns out that The Suicide Squad crew had been holding on to teasers for the upcoming movie to surprise director James Gunn on his birthday. Gunn turned 54 years old on Wednesday, which was when the team finally revealed the official new Suicide Squad logo.
Taking to social media, the director shared, “The Suicide Squad team just got me these amazing new official title treatments on my birthday today.” The previews, which showcase the movie’s name in various languages, feature the title in a red outlined comic book-like serifs along with bullet holes and against a yellow background, a stark contrast to the former metallic pastel sans-serif design.
The Suicide Squad team also honored Gunn’s birthday by applying the visual treatment to the message, “Happy birthday, James!” along with video dedications by the cast. “I can’t lie, it made me well up a little!” the director responded.
The Suicide Squad, the standalone sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, is scheduled to open on 6 August 2021.
Fans will finally discover additional details about the film come 22 August via DCFanDome.com.
